The Art Appreciation Group meets on the 2nd Tuesday each month 10am to 11.30 in the Craven Room at Tarporley Community Centre. The group usually has about 15 or so people at each monthly meeting and we have a mixture of speakers, some external and others are the members themselves. With the ethos of the u3a in mind members take part by researching a subject, sometimes on a theme, and telling the group about it and often showing images or a short video clip on the subject. Sometimes we will arrange a visit to an exhibition such as the one by Yayoi Kusama held in Manchester, hear talks at local galleries such as the Lady Lever art gallery or visit a place of artistic interest like Sudley House in Liverpool.
In recent times we have heard about textile art, brought in a fascinating range of Christmas baubles, had an art quiz, heard about garden designers and architects, native art and a few local artists came to speak about their work; textile, photography and animation. We usually have a newsletter sent out after the meeting to keep everyone updated with what goes on. We also have a small private Facebook group where we post art of interest to us.
We publish a regular Newsletter describing our activities. You can click on Art Appreciation Newsletter November 2024 to learn about our last meeting exploring ceramics.
