Help in Identification

Although you may be familiar with many of the fauna and flora you discover, there will be times when you would like some help with identification. Traditionally, one relied on illustrated books, but carrying a mini-library around is somewhat cumbersome and it can be time-consuming flicking through the pages. Fortunately Artificial Intelligence has come to lend a hand with a range of Apps for your mobile phone, tablet or PC. If you can take a reasonable photo on your phone, you should be able to identify what you’ve discovered. You can then use one of many websites to confirm the identity and learn more about that specimen.

Apps, you might try, include:
Google Lens: a general purpose App
Obsidentify: good for plants and animals, and is also great for insects and fungi.
PlantNet: as it says, good for plants
Merlin: Excellent for identifying birdsongs
All these Apps are available on Apple AppStore and Google Play
