The Spanish ‘Chat, learn, laugh’ group has an emphasis on practising speaking our Spanish and getting comfortable using it in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere rather than being taught it. None of us speak Spanish as a native or fluent speaker although it is also not a beginners group.
We have a variety of Spanish experiences…night classes, tuition, lived in Spain and a few are well versed in other European languages.
With the u3a ethos in mind we share out being a ‘lead’ for each meet up. The ‘lead’ chooses an article or exercise in Spanish and the convenor sends it out before we meet allowing us to translate and understand the content and then at the meet up we read, translate and discuss the item.
Subjects in the last year have been quite diverse from gardening, Franco, Spanish art, verbs, festivals, wolves, Mexican celebrations, numbers, false friends and lots more. The aim is to learn and practice in a relaxed and fun environment.
